Welcome!

The Kansas Historic Theatre Association is a non-profit organization formed to promote and facilitate the restoration of noteworthy historic theatres throughout our state. KHTA's goals are to preserve the theatres as an example of an important architectural and cultural period in our history and to put the buildings to practical use as a source of civic pride and financial stimulation to their cities.

The theatre is a versatile structure. Many were built during the era of silent movies when a typical evening's entertainment included live performances and organ solos as well as the motion picture itself. The buildings were designed with all of these events in mind and can serve well as a multi-use community facility. When restored, these great theatres meet the needs of concerts, drama, ballet, opera, musical comedy, lectures and conventions in addition to motion pictures.

KHTA welcomes its two newest members: the Gregg Theatre in Sedan and the Colonial Fox in Pittsburg (which had previously been a member, but that’s a long story).

The Gregg is an up-and-running venue, an important component in the revitalization of Sedan. The Colonial Fox was recently saved from demolition, and a group of dedicated volunteers is moving full-steam ahead to return a fully renovated theatre back to the community. Our most recent KHTA meeting was in Pittsburg, where much information was passed from the accumulated wisdom of various KHTA members to the folks involved in the renovation.
