Welcome to the KHTA
Home to Historic Theatres throughout Kansas
The Kansas Historic Theatre Association is a non-profit organization formed to promote and facilitate the restoration of noteworthy historic theatres throughout our state. KHTA's goals are to preserve the theatres as an example of an important architectural and cultural period in our history and to put the buildings to practical use as a source of civic pride and financial stimulation to their cities.
The historic theatre is a versatile structure. Many were built during the era of silent movies when a typical evening's entertainment included live performances and organ solos as well as the motion picture itself. The buildings were designed with all of these events in mind and can serve well as a multi-use community facility. When restored, these great theatres meet the needs of concerts, drama, ballet, opera, musical comedy, lectures and conventions in addition to motion pictures.
